can we heal ouselves by keeping our bpdy alkaline?

There is no scientific evidence to support the claim that we can heal ourselves by keeping our body alkaline. In fact, our body has different pH levels for different compartments, such as the blood, the stomach, the urine, and the cells. The pH level is a measure of how acidic or alkaline a substance is, ranging from 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral. The body regulates its pH levels very tightly to maintain optimal functioning and health1.

The blood is slightly alkaline, with a normal pH range of 7.35 to 7.45. If the blood becomes too acidic or too alkaline, it can cause serious health problems, such as metabolic acidosis or metabolic alkalosis. These conditions are usually caused by underlying diseases or disorders that affect the kidneys, lungs, or other organs, not by the food we eat2.

The stomach is very acidic, with a pH of around 2 to 3. This helps digest food and kill bacteria that may enter the digestive tract. The stomach acid is neutralized by bicarbonate in the small intestine, where most of the nutrients are absorbed. The pH of the small intestine is around 7 to 81.

The urine is slightly acidic, with a pH of around 6. This helps prevent urinary tract infections and kidney stones. The urine pH can vary depending on what we eat or drink, but this does not reflect the pH of the blood or the cells1.

The cells have different pH levels depending on their function and location. For example, muscle cells have a pH of around 6.1, while liver cells have a pH of around 7.4. The cells use various mechanisms to maintain their pH balance, such as buffers, pumps, and enzymes1.

The food we eat does not directly affect the pH of the blood or the cells, because the body has several ways to neutralize or excrete any excess acid or base that may come from our diet. For example, if we eat more acidic foods, such as meat, cheese, or coffee, the kidneys will produce more bicarbonate to buffer the blood and excrete more acid in the urine. If we eat more alkaline foods, such as fruits, vegetables, or milk, the kidneys will produce less bicarbonate and excrete more base in the urine1.

Therefore, there is no need to try to keep our body alkaline by following an alkaline diet or drinking alkaline water. These methods are not proven to prevent or cure any diseases and may even be harmful in some cases. For example, drinking too much alkaline water can cause nausea, vomiting, muscle twitching, or confusion due to low levels of calcium and magnesium in the blood3.

The best way to keep our body healthy is to eat a balanced diet that includes a variety of foods from all food groups, drink enough water to stay hydrated, exercise regularly, avoid smoking and alcohol abuse, and manage stress levels. These habits can help us prevent chronic diseases and improve our quality of life3.
